The ADIV series of high-precision automatic surface grinders is the result of an ongoing and expanding research and development program at Chevalier. In addition to improving accuracy, quality, and machine life, the overall design of the machine has also been innovated. All handles, push rods, stroke setting devices, and control pedals are designed for easy operation, helping to increase work efficiency.

Variable speed spindle

The spindle drive system can control the spindle speed. With the automatic wheel dressing function, the drive system will help maintain a stable surface grinding speed according to the wheel diameter.
Dynamic balancing inside the machine
Adjusting the balance weight inside the machine.

The dynamic balancing system inside the machine can help limit grinding wheel vibration to less than 1 μm.

Load sensor
The spindle load can be measured during processing. The operator can use this information to see if the grinding wheel needs adjustment. If an abnormal load is detected, the spindle will automatically move upward to stop the working cycle.

Automatic wheel dressing on the table
During processing, the machine can perform an automatic wheel dressing cycle. The table will position the installed diamond tip and will perform wheel dressing and compensation according to the operator’s settings.

Roller guide rails along 3 axes
All 3 axis guide rails are made of S55C steel that has been standardized and hardened by high-frequency induction. These guide rails have a hardness of HRC 60-64 after heat treatment. Precision bearings run through a preloaded connecting tube between the linear guide rails to ensure accurate positioning and prevent slippage during movement.
Longitudinal drive by AC Servo motor
The travel of the grinding head on the preloaded linear guide rail system is driven by a ball screw and an AC servo motor that provides high torque, acceleration, and precise positioning with an adjustment capability of 0.001mm (0.0001”). The manual pulse generator (MPG) makes operation easy.
Cross feed speed control
The cross feed speed is controlled by an AC servo motor to provide a flatter grinding surface, more accurate movement, and allow for wheel dressing from the table.

Machine Structure

Longitudinal Guide Rail System

The grinding head and column system is constructed with hardened steel guide rails and precision bearings. The grinding head and column guide rails are preloaded to eliminate gaps for more accurate linear motion. The grinding head guide rail system has low friction for precise feed up to 0.001mm (0.0001”).

Table Guide Rail System

The table guide rail system is constructed from hardened steel guide rails with precision bearings, providing excellent durability and low friction. It also enables more accurate linear motion without deviation even at high speeds.

Wheelhead Guide Rail System

The wheelhead guide rail system is constructed from specially designed preloaded bearings and hardened slide rails. The bearing assembly includes independent load bearings and preloaded guide bearings. The load bearings support the load in the longitudinal direction, and the preloaded guide bearings ensure accuracy when the wheelhead moves laterally. The combination of these two types of bearings allows for long service life, low friction, and no slippage during movement.

The control station can be adjusted to a position suitable for the operator. All switches, push buttons, LED lights, indicator lights, and display screens are conveniently located for operation.
